ABOUT ME
TYLER NICHOLS
Hello! I am a senior at Tiffin University and plan to graduate in the Spring of 2016 with a BBA degree in Sports and Recreation Management with a concentration in Athletic Administration. I am also minoring in Human Resource Management. My future career goal is to be a Professional scout for a major league baseball team or to be a head coach of a university baseball team. I love all sports and have actively been an athlete my whole life. I am currently a starting pitcher for the Tiffin University Baseball team and have won awards for the GLIAC conference and have broken the school record for the lowest ERA in a season. I have experience in assistant coaching girls 18U fastpitch softball, and my internship with the Wildcat Pride Fastpitch Softball Organization has given me valuable tools to take with me as I look forward to gaining a career in coaching.
WORK PLAN
I did an internship as an assistant coach with the Wildcat Pride Softball 18U team. I worked between 10-30 hours a week depending on what tournament was being played that week. The main Duties that I performed during my internship was to assist coaching staff with overseeing player practices, assembling team equipment before and after practices and games, warming up throwing and coaching starting pitchers, keeping score and statistics book, composing game line-up rosters, speaking with opposing team coaches and game umpires, advising head coach of pitch selection and hitting counts. I also gave post game comments to players with the other coaching staff. I spent 3-5 hours during the beginning of the week to compute players stats following that weekend's tournament for coach, player, and parent reviews. My goals for this internship was to develop valuable leadership skills in an athletic team environment and to learn the tools that are needed to be a coach for a competitive sports team. My learning outcome for this experience was to develop better communication skills, obtain qualities needed to become a successful athletic leader and gain a valuable in the field experience to give me a competitive edge when seeking future employment in the Sports Management field.
